Repositioning Microsoft inside youth culture through fashion, music, and experience.
Microsoft — Softwear Apparel Launch
Content Strategy | Cultural Positioning
The Challenge
Among culture-driving audiences aged 18–35, Microsoft was invisible. The brand was seen as corporate, technical, and emotionally distant—far from the spaces where youth culture was being made and remade.

What We Rewired
- Software company → cultural collaborator
- Advertising → experience-led discovery
- Corporate → cool
What We Built
We created Softwear by Microsoft—an apparel line inspired by tech pioneers and 1980s socially conscious hip-hop. The launch combined apparel, music, and live experience, including a NYC event with Common as cultural partner. Content and design were built to introduce Microsoft through culture first, product second, so youth audiences could encounter the brand in spaces that felt like theirs.
What Changed
- 35M+ earned media impressions
- 400+ influencers at the NYC launch
- Coverage in 59 lifestyle outlets
- Viral performance by Common
OS Lens
This activation demonstrates how cultural positioning reframes brand identity by entering culture as a participant, not a broadcaster.
